Hiking Trails

Box Canyon Trail


10 minutes from the cabin is one of the most gorgeous hikes of Rim Country. This moderate hike leads to beautiful waterfalls, with only a total route of .8 miles. Learn More.




Chamberlain Trail


Excellent for riding your ATV from your cabin, down through Haigler Creek and onto Young. Off Colcord Road, take back road to Young through Haigler Creek. Learn More.




260 Trailhead


27 miles east of the cabin. Highline National Recreational Trail with trails ascending to the Mogollon Rim. The historic trail was established by early homesteads and ranches in the late 1800s. Learn More.




Payson Ranger Station


1 Mile to the right of the cabin. Information on camping, hiking, fishing and hunting in the Rim Country below the Mogollon Rim. There is a short exercise trail adjacent to the station. Learn More.




Haigler Creek


Haigler creek offers rainbows and browns trout all year long and many trails. It is only 20 minutes from the cabin down the Chamberlin Trail towards Young, Arizona. Learn More.





Tonto Natural Bridge


The largest natural travertine in the world resides just north of Payson. The bridge stands 183 feet high over a 400-foot long tunnel that measures 150 feet at its widest point. There are three hiking trails, a picnic area, and a group use area. Learn More.




Mogollon Rim Road


30 miles north of Payson. Over 7,000 feet in elevation, the rim is a 200-mile long mountain plateau. This scenic drive follows the rim 45 miles east to Highway 260. Vista points along the way provide an awesome view of the Tonto National Forest below. Fishing in the lakes along the way; picnicking, camping, boating, hiking and wildlife viewing make this an unforgettable trip.

Railroad to Nowhere


Take Forest Road 300 and stop at the head of the East Verde River. A monument to the Battle of Big Dry Wash marks the spot, along with a sign pointing to General Springs. Follow switchback trail down into the canyon, and the tunnel is hidden up to your left in a side canyon. This is a difficult hike.

Woods Canyon Lake

Willow Springs Lake


Willow Springs Lake is one of the most accessible of the Rim lakes and has a very scenic setting in a heavily forested area on the edge of the Mogollon Rim. Learn More.




Black Canyon Lake


Much like the other lakes listed above this lake is a scenic treat in the middle of the Pines. Due to a fire in the area several years ago the area has lost many trees but still remains beautiful. Black Canyon Lake is only permitted for day use at this time. Learn More.
